  • Preferences (e.g. theme, notification settings)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve app functionality
  • Enable real-time features like friend tracking and check-ins
  • Personalise your experience with badges, stats, and Wrapped summaries
  • Suggest venues based on your behaviour and community ratings
  • Communicate app updates, offers, or promotional content
  • Display relevant in-app sponsored content or events
  • Ensure safety, enforce our community guidelines, and comply with legal obligations

3. Data Sharing & Third-Party Services

We do not sell your personal information. However, we may share information with:

  • Third-party service providers (e.g., Mapbox, Supabase, Firebase, analytics and hosting tools)
  • Venue and brand partners (only in anonymized and aggregated form for analytics or licensing purposes)
  • Law enforcement or legal entities, if required by law
  • Other users, based on your selected sharing preferences (e.g. public check-ins, social badges)

Sponsored posts or venue promotions may appear in your feed and will be clearly marked.

4. Analytics & Data Licensing

We aggregate and anonymize usage data (e.g., visit patterns, heatmap data, badge stats) for:

  • Business intelligence and app improvement
  • Licensing to third parties like pubs, breweries, or research firms for commercial use
  • Generating insights such as busiest venues, popular drink types, or user movement trends

This data is never sold with personally identifiable information.

5. Push Notifications & Marketing

With your consent, we may send:

  • Friendly updates ("Still enjoying The Old Ship?")
  • Reminders to drink water, check-out, or explore nearby pubs
  • Marketing or promotional notifications (e.g. pub offers, bar events)

You can disable these via your device or app settings.

6. User Profiles & Public Activity

Your app activity may be visible to others, depending on your sharing settings. This includes:

  • Check-ins and venue visits
  • Badges earned
  • Profile and map-based stats (if your profile is public)

You can set your posts to Private, Friends Only, Close Friends or Public from the app settings.

7. DrinkUp RoundUp & Personal Stats

We may compile your app activity into optional summaries like Nightly, Weekly, or Yearly "DrinkUp RoundUp" reports. These highlight things like:

  • Most visited venues
  • Number of hours out
  • Badges earned
  • Cheers! (likes) given and received

These are optional and only generated for your personal use unless you choose to share them.

8. Legal Basis for Processing Data (GDPR Compliance)

We process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Consent (for optional location tracking, push notifications, and marketing)
  • Contract necessity (to deliver core app features)
  • Legitimate interest (for app improvement and user analytics)

9. Data Retention & Deletion

  • We retain your data as long as your account is active.
  • If you delete your account, your data is deleted from active systems within 30 days.
  • Some anonymized and aggregated data may be retained for business intelligence and licensing purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

DrinkUp is not intended for individuals under the age of 18 or below the legal drinking age in your country. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
